The saying “health is wealth” has never been so relevant. Over the past eighteen months, our well-being has become more important than ever before. Thankfully, Türkiye has embraced a spa and wellness culture for thousands of years, and its turned relaxation into an art form. Turkish baths and high-end spa resorts are now the norm, so rest assured you won’t struggle to find the ideal place to relax and unwind whilst cruising the Turkish coast. Here’s a look at just a few of the best luxury spas in Bodrum.
BEST LUXURY SPAS IN BODRUM
Gone are the days when Bodrum was known only for the old-town resort of the same name. Today, the entire Bodrum peninsula is a yachting playground. Here, former fishing villages now home world-class superyacht marinas and fancy fine restaurants, and many of the countries most lavish resorts lie along this spectacular stretch of the Aegean. Most that cruise in Türkiye head to Bodrum at some point, so if you’re entertaining guests with a passion for being pampered, they won’t be disappointed as there are several phenomenal luxury spas in Bodrum.
Amanruya Spa, Bodrum
As you would expect from Aman, one of the world’s most exclusive hotel brands, the Armanruya resort in Bodrum is exquisite and a retreat sure to impress even the most discerning. The atmosphere and Aman ethos is different to most other high-end resorts. This 50-acre site homes a selection of luxury private villas/pavilions, each with its own pool and connected to the communal facilities by olde-worlde cobblestone walkways. The grounds are elevated and nestled into the pine trees and olive groves to the rear of Bodrum’s Mandalya Bay. Armanruya is the epitome of class and elegance, making for an incredible onshore escape.
Amanruya takes its name from the Sanskrit word ‘aman,’ meaning peace, and the word ‘ruya’ meaning dream in Turkish, and that aptly describes the setting as you would be hard-pushed to find anywhere more restful in Türkiye. The Beach Club lies to the front of the site, with decked lounging, a short pebble beach, daybeds and a decent café/bar/restaurant. The main restaurant gains rave reviews, but the spa is the real sanctuary dedicated to holistic wellness. Here you find an extensive range of treatments, including Swedish massage and traditional Turkish therapies. To know more, see the Amanruya website or CONTACT US for spa reservations or overnight bookings.
Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum
The Telegraph says, “Mandarin Oriental Bodrum is a true luxury cocoon on Türkiye’s glittering Aegean coastline, with virtually the same number of staff as guests. It offers sublime views, hip bars, an excellent choice of restaurants, and a fabulous spa” – so, as you would expect, it’s a resort catering to the uber-wealthy that lies in a class of its own.
You can find Mandarin Oriental in the aptly named Paradise Bay, an idyllic setting near the village of Golturkbuku, 13 miles from Bodrum town. This is a tiered resort split into low-rise blocks over 150 acres of prime beachfront with two white sandy beaches. The interiors and rooms are lavish teak and marble, designed by Antonio Citterio. The artwork is modern and eyecatching, with the resort homing a contemporary art gallery run by Murat Pilevneli, a name at the forefront of the Turkish art scene. (See our post on Contemporary Art in Türkiye).
It’s safe to say that most guests will return from Mandarin Oriental Bodrum satisfied. Aside from outstanding service, fine rooms, great restaurants and bars, the spa is also one of the best in the Med. Here they take wellness and relaxation to a whole new level, in a dedicated space spread over two floors. There are treatment rooms bigger than many hotel suites, plus a vast menu of therapies on offer alongside indoor and outdoor pools, relaxing sea view cabanas, saunas, steam rooms, a comprehensive fitness centre and a luxurious hamam. To make a reservation, CONTACT US or see the resort website for details.
Six Senses Kaplankaya
Rebranded in 2018, Six Senses Kaplankaya is now a world-renowned spa and wellness resort straddling a pretty bay on the Bodrum peninsular. As with most hotels in the Six Senses brand, the focus here is rest and relaxation.
The resort almost looks like a superyacht when approached from the bay, with low-rise buildings stepping up the hillside from the main resort centre and guest rooms and stylish villas climbing up the hillside to the rear, all serviced by resort buggies. There are several excellent restaurants and bars onsite, including an Alchemy Bar serving healthy options to complement the various heath and fitness programs run onsite, including vegan, plant-based and raw foods.
Six Senses Kaplankaya’s vast and impressive spa is what the site is all about. With 20 treatment rooms, hydrothermal facilities, a large indoor pool, a first-class fitness centre, exercise studios, meditation/yoga spots and a medical centre, in fact, it’s hard to find a spa with better facilities – that’s why the resort often crops up on the worlds “best spa” listings. Six Senses Kaplankaya is a place superyacht guests tend to feel at home, where the tiniest details are attended to and nothing is too much trouble, meaning they return onboard in good mind and spirit. See the Six Senses website for more information or CONTACT US for reservations.
