Ignite the senses and reconnect with nature on a 360 Yachting guided trek along the Lycian Way. Take to the hills where Mother Nature reigns: where the valley’s and cliffsides dissolve into the turquoise waters of the Med, and the aroma of wild thyme and rosemary fill the breeze.
The Lycian Way (Likya Yolu)
Those familiar with the stretch of coastline between Fethiye and Antalya will already know it’s spectacular. Shaped by the elements over millennia, it’s a place where forested hills and mountains crash down to the water’s edge and hidden bays tuck into the nooks and crannies of the cliffsides.
The majority of guests travelling this year have been confined to their homes and friendly bubbles for way too long, so escaping into nature and breathing the fresh mountain air may be just what the doctor ordered – not only the guests but crew too!
The Lycian Way is Türkiye’s first and most famous long-distance coastal walking trail, and it is widely considered one of the most beautiful in the world. It is a 540-km route originally conceived by Kate Clow and takes its name from the ancient civilisation that once ruled over the region. The trail follows the cliffsides from Ovacik near Fethiye and ends at Konyaalti in Antalya. The entire way, which varies from easy-going to moderate and challenging in places, takes around 29 days to complete. Only the dedicated take a month to complete the stretch fully, but short distances can be walked easily in just a few hours and offers the ideal chance to get the heart pumping and feel the magic of the coastline from a different perspective.
Suggested route: Oludeniz to Faralya
Perhaps the most famous section of the Lycian Way runs from Ovacik near Oludeniz to Faralya. Much of this guided route is easy to moderate going, but it can be a scramble in places. This guided trek follows waymarks and serves-up some of the most spectacular vantage points over Oludeniz, with the famous arm of the lagoon in the distance. It also progresses through stunning plateaus and mountain valleys. En-route, natural springs can be used to top-up water bottles, or you can enjoy freshly squeezed juice and local cheese and herb-filled gozleme (local pancakes) at a rustic village café in the hills.
The tour takes around 5 hours and ends in Faralya, a beautiful village now home to several boutique hotels, yoga and wellness retreats and high-end villas. Here, we can arrange transport to take you back to the yacht, or you can opt to recharge and soak in the scenery with a light meal and drinks at one of the high-end local retreats – ask us for details.
Notes: Walks along the Lycian Way should only be attempted by those with a reasonable fitness level. Walking boots or sturdy, comfortable shoes are necessary, as is plenty of water, your mobile phone/camera, sunscreen and a high-energy snack or protein bar. Treks along the Lycian Way are best attempted in spring or autumn when the weather is cooler or early morning before the mid-day sun makes conditions difficult.
Paragliding over Oludeniz.
There’s perhaps only one other way to appreciate Türkiye’s coastline and famous blue lagoon if you’ve already walked the Lycian Way and seen the blues from your yacht at surface level – take to the air!
Paragliding is one of the most adventurous and exhilarating excursions 360 Yachting offer. Taking a tandem paragliding jump from the lofty heights of Babadag Mountain, riding high on the thermals and descending over the famous sandbank down to the beachfront in Oludeniz is the ultimate way to capture that all-important photo of your feet dangling high above the pale arm of the lagoon.
Oludeniz is one of the worlds most popular spots for paragliding and air sports. Each October, the resort holds the Oludeniz International Airgames that attract enthusiasts and crazy Red Bull pilots from around the world. This three-day event is impressive to watch and showcases the acro-pilots death-defying antics. If you are cruising the coast in mid-October, do let us add a visit to the bay to your itinerary – you are unlikely to be disappointed.
Paragliding tends to be popular with guests and crew during a stay in Fethiye, and a new cable car set to open for summer 2021 now makes for quick and easy access to the top of the mountain. A good restaurant at the summit is also a great place to take sundown drinks and enjoy phenomenal vistas over the mountains and sea for those that prefer to keep their feet on the ground.
